Notes: There are so many public services that lead to stronger communities. It is very easy to overlook many of these services that dramatically improve the quality of our life’s. Residents in the Clintonville neighborhood of Columbus are very aware of the rodent infestation. The city, with a stable revenue source through the local income tax, identified the problem and is allocating resources to address it. Ohio needs to be in a similar position to address problems that hinder the quality of life and deter business from growing in our communities. Ridding a community of rats is a better economic development tool that cuts to marginal income tax rates.

Notes: The Capitol Insider summarizes many current debates at the statehouse, including the debate on how legislators want to spend $400 million. As a result of Medicaid Expansion, Ohio has $400 million to allocate to other programs and areas for public investment.
The Dispatch’s summary of different proposals:

  • Sen. Chris Widener, R-Springfield, wants to use it for a 4 percent state income-tax cut.
  • Reps. Ron Gerberry, D-Austintown, and Terry Boose, R-Norwalk, are proposing giving it to local governments.
  • Rep. Dave Hall, R-Millersburg, wants to make payments on money borrowed from the federal government for unemployment benefits.
  • Speaker William G. Batchelder, R-Medina, has suggested it go for veterans and fighting Ohio’s burgeoning heroin problem.
