Nicholas Bates
One Ohio Now’s Outreach Director

Nick previously served as the Youth Advocacy Program Coordinator and an Americorps VISTA for COHHIO’s Youth Empowerment Program. For more than 5 years, Nick advocated and organized on homeless and transitional youth issues to address the systemic barriers that young adults face as they transition to adulthood.
Nick has worked on voting rights for homeless and college students, raising the state minimum wage, regulating payday lenders, and faith-based hunger and social justice efforts. Nick is originally from Northeast Ohio and moved to Columbus for college where he met his wife. Together, they have two young children.
Nick was consecrated as Diaconal Minister in the Lutheran Church (ELCA) in November 2014, called to ministries of advocacy and social justice. He serves on various committees and boards within the faith community.
